Rice University scientists and their colleagues at C-Crete Technologies have optimized a process to convert waste from rubber tires into graphene that can, in turn, be used to strengthen concrete. After useful oils are extracted from waste tires, this carbon residue has until now had near-zero value, Tour said.

The biorefinery in Lakeview will convert 136,000 tons of forestry residue into 15 million gallons per year of renewable transportation fuels including diesel and jet fuel. Not to be outdone, on Tuesday the Norwegian electric car startup, Think, was in Portland being wooed by the state as one of 8 potential places to site their first car manufacturing facility in the United States. One thing is for sure; - electric cars bring down the air pollution, but they sure create another waste pollution problem.
