The system was built using batteries reclaimed from electrified vehicles (HEV, PHEV, BEV, FCEV) and is connected to the consumer electrical power grid. JERA and Toyota began discussions in 2018 to establish battery reuse technologies, which eventually led to this large-capacity, grid-connected Sweep Energy Storage System.

Paired with renewable energy sources like solar, wind, or other energy sources, facilities can use the BES system to store and harness solar power or as a backup power source by storing energy from the grid. Installing a BESS on-site helps alleviate this grid demand for EV charging.

Under a venture with the motto “From Road to Grid”, Audi is therefore currently working on a concept to convert old batteries into stationary energy stores. A first test setup located near Ingolstadt recently started supplying the grid. The plate has an integrated primary coil and an inverter (AC/AC converter).

But its monumentally less pollution , even on the national (half-coal) grid. Whats Vehicle-to-Grid and why would I like it?
