The Southern California company is looking to speed things up again—this time with record-setting charging stops. Founder Richard Hatfield claims that the company’s Lightning Strike motorcycle can fill its battery from 20 percent to 80 percent in a little over 10 minutes on a Level 3 DC fast charger.

Since it was not a Level 2 charger, I knew it would not gain much juice overnight. Fortunately the guy next to me was finishing charging his Mustang Mach-E and he “gave” me his cable to use (the cost was being charged to his company card). Currently the only other cars with an 800-volt systems are the Porsche Taycan and Audi E-Tron GT.

GM has been saying for a while now that they had picked their supplier for the LiIon battery in the Volt, but they weren’t prepared to announce who it was. GM Reported Ready To Give Volt Battery Nod to Unit of LG Chem. Lots going on with batteries now, as John O’Dell’s piece below illustrates. that got the nod.

On both sides of the Atlantic, the 4xe will be followed by plug-in versions of every other Jeep by 2025, parent company Stellantis announced during a July press briefing. The e-motor also provides regenerative braking to recharge the battery, and there’s an integrated 33 kW (44 hp) starter-generator as well. Default: hybrid, not EV.

And more German metal for company. That said, if that’s your typical daily commute, it’s easy to see how plugging in overnight would give you all the juice you need. It’s a simple way for car companies to boost earnings by charging for such updates. Please, please don’t drop it on that paint.
