In association with researchers from the Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) and analysts at mining consultancy Weir International, metallurgical coal producer Ramaco Resources released an independent Exploration Target report with technical assessment of rare earth elements (REE) found at its Brook Mine in Wyoming.

Ramaco Carbon is partnering with Oak Ridge National Laboratory to develop new, large-scale processes for making graphite from coal. The conversion of coal to higher value materials, such as graphene, graphite or carbon nanotubes, is of high interest, and a number of researchers have proposed processes.

The Clean Coal Task Force (CCTF) was created in 2007 by the Wyoming State Legislature to help secure Wyoming’s financial future by preserving the value of coal, an important export from the state. The University of Wyoming (UW) has received a $2 million grant from coal giant Peabody Energy to create the Peabody Energy Clean Coal Technology Laboratory in the UW Energy Resources Center in Laramie. This gift will be doubled by the Wyoming State Legislature matching fund.

Australia-based Linc Energy Limited has signed a purchase agreement to acquire a 100% interest in 92,059 acres of coal tenement lease areas in the Powder River Basin in Wyoming USA from GasTech Inc, a company based in Casper Wyoming. Linc Energy has agreed to pay US$5 million for the purchase of the GasTech coal tenements.
