MidAmericans David Sokol, BYDs Wang, and company advisor Li Lu flew with Sokol from Detroit to Omaha so that Wang could meet Buffett in person. His people at MidAmerican have studied clean technologies like batteries and wind power for years because of the threat of climate change. Electric cars will be one answer.

There are companies that are reinventing the lead-acid battery to make it more competitive with lithium-ion and nickel metal hydride in terms of storage capacity versus weight, durability, and cold weather performance. Many of the first Prius hybrids that were released are still running strong on their NiMH batteries after 100,000+ miles.
