The headliner in this segment is the issuance of a Presidential Memorandum directing the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to work “ expeditiously ” to complete CO 2 emission standards for both new and existing power plants. The standards for new plants—already being developed by EPA—are to be done this fall.

First, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized the Renewable Fuel Standard Program (RFS2) rule to implement the long-term renewable fuels standard of 36 billion gallons by 2022 established by Congress and also issued the targets for 2010. And we want to get up 10 commercial demonstration projects, get those up and running by 2016.

Alternative-fuel and electric-vehicle programs the Lung Association oversees include: Clean Air Choice: The Lung Association’s overarching program promotes the use of cleaner-burning fuels and cleaner engine technology that reduce motor vehicle emissions, including the use of biofuels (E85 and biodiesel), and electric and hybrid vehicles.

That being said, even a car that derives its energy from coal power plants would be far more clean. Having centralized energy production in that way allows for centralized pollution control measures, filters, so-called "clean coal" rather than depending on X number of cars, manufacturers, and consumers to deal with pollution control.
