Mendel also said said that Honda will not offer a plug-in version of Accord going forward as the company looks toward the scheduled launch of a new dedicated plug-in model. Honda currently is selling the MY 2014 Accord Plug-in Hybrid. Honda will launch the all-new 10 th -generation Civic this fall.

The Volt remained the top-selling plug-in vehicle in the US in October. Year-to-date, Toyota has sold 9,623 units of the Prius plug-in hybrid. Sales of the Civic Hybrid were down 5.6% to 453 units, while sales of the hybrid Insight dropped 49% to 251 units. The Acura ILX hybrid posted 144 units sold.

The California Air Resources Board has approved the 2014 Honda Plug-in Hybrid Accord as the first car for sale in California that meets ARB’s LEV3/SULEV20 standard—the most stringent smog-emission standard to date. The 2014 Honda Plug-In Hybrid Accord produces only 20 milligrams of NMOG+NO x emissions per mile.

The plant currently produces 5 million cells a year for the Civic Hybrid sold in North America. Its output capacity will be increased to also supply batteries for a plug-in hybrid that Honda plans to launch in Japan and the US later this year.
