The California Air Resources Board has approved the 2014 Honda Plug-in Hybrid Accord as the first car for sale in California that meets ARB’s LEV3/SULEV20 standard—the most stringent smog-emission standard to date. The 2014 Honda Plug-In Hybrid Accord produces only 20 milligrams of NMOG+NO x emissions per mile.

Honda Motor Company will introduce a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and a new plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) to the US market in 2012, said President & CEO Takanobu Ito in his mid-year address in Tokyo, Japan. The City of Torrance will also receive a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle for evaluation by the end of 2010.

Now, to add some further complication, everyone's got religion on plug-in hybrids. A plug-in hybrid, one could say, simply integrates electric drive into a car with internal combustion. Even the Prius and Civic Hybrid are quite different. But PHEVs are inherently the most complicated of all options.
