Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) and PSA Peugeot Citroen have signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding collaboration on electric vehicles based on the i MiEV electric vehicle currently under development by MMC in Japan.

The Nikkei reports that Mitsubishi Motors Corp. is in talks with PSA Peugeot Citroen Group about supplying the French automaker with small internal combustion engined (ICE) cars—from 1.0-1.3-liter liter displacement—that it will manufacture in emerging countries. Renault SA team and Daimler AG.

The Nikkei reports that Mitsubishi Motors Corp. As a result of that earlier agreement, PSA and MMC are developing an electric vehicle for Europe based on the i MiEV, to be manufactured by MMC and sold under Peugeot brand, in parallel to Mitsubishi’s own European i MiEV. Earlier post.).

GS Yuasa now supplies lithium ion batteries to Mitsubishi Motors for use in the i-MiEV electric car. The batteries will be made at a Ritto, Shiga Prefecture, plant of Lithium Energy Japan, a joint venture GS Yuasa set up with Mitsubishi Motors Corp. and Mitsubishi Corp. GS Yuasa Corp.
