Reuters reports that Chrysler has disbanded its ENVI team, formed in 2007 to bring electric-drive vehicles and related advanced-propulsion technologies to market. In April 2009, Chrysler unveiled four all-electric Chrysler Town & Country minivan concepts to the US Postal Service (USPS) in Washington, DC.

Chrysler unveiled four all-electric Chrysler Town & Country minivan concepts to the US Postal Service (USPS) in Washington, DC, as part of the USPS Earth Day celebration. One of the electric mini-van prototypes. The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) also has signed an LOI to provide USPS integration tools.

The announcement coincides with GE’s submission this week for federal stimulus dollars from the US Department of Energy. We really believe that lithium provides power, sodium provides storage and the combination of these two technologies will find great fits, perhaps even in plug in electric vehicles over time. We like that.

As March came to a close, the Obama administration found GM and Chrysler’s restructuring plans “not viable.” Chrysler was told to consummate with Fiat quickly or else. New public charging infrastructure, however, won’t bring us electric cars.
