The new Mitsubishi Triton is joining the petrol-electric plug-in hybrid rush alongside the 2024 BYD ute and 2025 Ford Ranger PHEV. Alfa Romeo Tonale – the Italian brand finally has a rechargeable car in its ranks in the form of the Tonale PHEV compact SUV. Aston Martin DBX PHEV and EV – electrified versions of AM’s first SUV on the cards. No surprises there are promises of big performance for a PHEV due late in 2022 or early 2023.

Whereas the original Niro was available as a regular hybrid , a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and a battery electric vehicle (EV), the new model does without the PHEV option. So instead it’s hybrid and EV tech for Kia’s new entry-level electrified SUV. But even as a hybrid the Niro doesn’t come particularly cheap.

Due in the second quarter, the BYD Seal U is available globally as a plug-in hybrid EV (PHEV) and a fully electric model. There will be single-motor front-drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive models available and a lengthy list of tech that includes remote connectivity and dual 12.3-inch Sharing its architecture with the Volkswagen ID.3

In 2022, California finalized a relatively conservative goal targeting 80%+ all-electric car sales by 2035 (the regulation will allow up to 20% PHEVs), called “Advanced Clean Cars II” (ACC2). Not to mention tax credit availability, fuel and maintenance savings, and really cheap deals on EVs right now.

Well need to spend some more time with the car to find out how it holds up over longer drives, but the powertrain tech obviously works. I also think it will be cheap, which is why I think someone will buy the group. Still, for all the faults, this is a very promising vehicle. to decide if we ever get to see these promises fulfilled.
