Last Friday, 30 September, Tesla introduced several prototypes of its new humanoid robot, Optimus. Together, they offer the most detailed and nuanced understanding of Optimus we’re likely to get outside of Tesla itself. Looking at the Tesla Bot as a roboticist, I am impressed by what the engineers achieved for this prototype in a year.

It’s been one full year since first Tesla S deliveries began. Given its range, and the rapidly growing free Supercharger network, the Tesla Model S works well for virtually everyone who can afford one. Without paid advertising, Tesla is selling all they can manufacture. Providing a conventional 120V outlet is cheap and familiar.

It’s called the XC40 Recharge, and the earliest versions aren’t cheap, priced from about $55,000 including delivery. That’s less than any other EV calling itself a “crossover” or “utility vehicle,” from the Chevy Bolt EV and its soon-to-arrive Bolt EUV “utility” sibling to any version of the Tesla Model Y. Volvo’s first EV.

And one on Google's map. And probably not cheap. If you're parking in a long term lot, your Tesla will fill up at 120V before you return. Nor on The EV Project/Ecotality's m ap. I did find one of the three on recargo.com , one of a number of outfits aggregating charge station locations. Good for them.

Tesla briefly entered the list of top sellers, with the Model Y also topping the SUV sales charts in September. Toby Hagon: Tesla Model Y. Tesla Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive. It may be the slowest Tesla ever unleashed in entry-level Rear-Wheel Drive guise, but performance is still thoroughly respectable.

As well as new models from heavy EV hitters such as Tesla, BYD, Polestar and Volvo, there will be a raft of traditional brands jumping on board the electric car race. It’s the former that will show up first but the latter is more interesting because as a mid-sized SUV it would provide more firepower against the Tesla Model Y.
