There’s also a fair number of used EVs under a year old or as dealer ex-demos with heavy discounts over RRP. Dedicated city cars with cheap-feeling cabins, but rarer than a Pagani Zonda on our shores. A bit of haggling will drop that price further – dealers will probably play ball to shift ’em.

Fortunately, timing with Covid price gouging after I bought the Golf meant I happily sold it back to the dealer (July 2021) to end the headache and didn’t lose money. In August 2021 it had a tire rotation and oil change at 45,934 miles at the dealer. & Nothing has broken whatsoever. At the five-year mark, do I really need the GS?

General Motor eCrate conversion kits – by late 2021 GM plans to offer battery and motor kits for classic cars, allowing an easy EV conversion. The company has already done plenty of background work (dealer training, charging infrastructure, etc) so it can push the button on the e-Niro later in 2021.

But you can now buy an ex-dealer demo one, typically with just a few thousand kilometres on the clock, from $40,000 drive-away. and, at time of writing, a Queensland dealer has a 2021 MX-30 Electric with 8300km showing for $39,990 drive-away. Ergo, very few sold. And that’s before haggling. Pretty generous.
