After talking with some engineers at HP and mulling over some ideas, I came up with the attached schematics for an inexpensive battery balancer. This one relies much more heavily on complex PIC programming and uses an off-the-shelf laptop or inkjet-printer power supply to deliver an isolated source of power for the battery charger.

Spy the back end at the wrong angle and it could be the lovechild of a Porsche 993 and Ford AU Falcon. They’re a big improvement on the Ioniq 5’s slightly cheap looking and feeling doors. It’s striking in the metal. Distinctive. Challenging. Catch it on a good angle and it’s bloody gorgeous.

Since the new rain gutter sits much higher than the old one, I added some cheap 99 cent funnels from the hardware store and cut them so that the top was level with the ground. The bottom edge is held on by sliding it under the horizontal support beam. I used silicone caulk to seal the three bolts to prevent leaks.

I'm a bit miffed that CCPower could have solved this issue themselves with a cheap (69cents from Radio Shack, cheaper in bulk) transistor. The real acid test will be to drive around at night with the headlights on and see if the DC-DC fails again. Things look promising so far.

Audi e-Tron GT – the BEV guts of the regular e-Tron (also shared with Porsche’s Taycan) in a coupe-inspired four-door body. General Motor eCrate conversion kits – by late 2021 GM plans to offer battery and motor kits for classic cars, allowing an easy EV conversion. Look out Porsche Macan! Due in 2022.
