Mineta San José International Airport’s (SJC) has deployed a fleet of 10 Proterra battery-electric buses that will transport passengers and their luggage between SJC’s parking lots, rental car center, and terminals. The buses and charging systems were designed and manufactured locally by Proterra, based in Burlingame, Calif.

The California state fleet has reduced its petroleum consumption by 13% compared to a 2003 baseline, according to a state progress report. In 2003, the state fleet consumed 38,559,715 gallons of petroleum-based fuel (gasoline and diesel), according to the report. 281,619 gallons gasoline equivalent (gge) of CNG and propane (7%).

UPS will deploy a prototype extended range Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) in its Rolling Laboratory fleet of alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles. Each FCEV produces electricity which continuously charges its batteries, thereby providing additional power and an extended range of 125 miles.
