Les Goldman wants you to convert (your hybrid.) So he proposed at the California Air Resources Board ZEV workshop on Tuesday. They've been converting some cars back east, working out the kinks. Hybrid drivers in California could finally actually get their hybrid converted. Let the people convert!

The 2023 UX 250h runs on 87 octane and is EPA rated at 43 mpg city/41 highway/42 combined. In the 210 miles we put on the CUV, averaging 65 miles per hour traversing Southern California highways, we had an average of 41.5 The nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery is charged when applying the brakes or coasting.

The founders of Google have made personal investments in Tesla as befits dotcom billionaires, and they're converting Priuses to plug-in hybrids for the company fleet with battery maker A123. nk City cars when Ford brought them to California to meet its ZEV Mandate obligation. Now the relationship with EVs may be going further still.

MG 1 starts the gasoline engine and charges the nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery, while MG2 drives the front wheels and regenerates the battery during braking and coasting, and MGR drives the rear wheels and also regenerates the battery. The EPA rates fuel economy at 31 mpg city/28 highway/30 combined.

Fuel economy for the 2022 UX 250h, which runs on 87 octane gasoline, is EPA rated at 41 mpg city/38 highway/39 combined, but in the Eco drive mode our time traversing Southern California highways covered 221 miles at an average of 42.7 mpg, and on short in-town runs I was getting in excess of 50 mpg.

The Gen III Prius offers an EPA-rated combined cycle fuel economy of 50 mpg (now revealed to comprise 50 mpg city and 49 mpg highway). The 2ZR-FXE engine is SULEV-rated (with AT-PZEV) in California, and has a Federal Tier 2 Bin 3 rating. Nominal pack voltage of the nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery remains at 201.6

How does this sound: 100+ MPG in a regular vehicle? California Air Resources Board studies show that battery electric vehicles emit at least 67% lower greenhouse gases than gasoline cars -- even more assuming renewables. At $3 for a gallon of gas, driving a non-hybrid car costs 8-20 cents/mile (depending on MPG).
