The NiMH batteries (same chemistry as in every Prius, including the PHEV under review here) which take my Toyota RAV4 EV over 100 miles using 10 year old technology and existing electric infrastructure and cost perhaps $20,000 in minimal production numbers, aren't considered ready for prime time and are often said to be too expensive.

Peter Roach, Birmingham, UK Nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries powered the late GM EV1 and still power hundreds of Toyota RAV4 EVs, some over 100,000 miles. Why does everybody state Tesla as US, When this is UK engineering from Norfolk in Great Britian? Is it becuase US market prefers a "home" product?

Even so, most next gen EV manufacturers are focused on lithium ion (and to a lesser extent NiMH) as the core technology to power their cars. More often than not, the “recycling&# of NiMH or lithium-ion batteries involves shipping them off to places like China, where their fate is truly unknown. — jerryd 7.

Last week it began taking pre-bookings for the Peugeot i0n model ( see article ), which is based on the Mitsubishi i-MiEV. The Peugeot name actually has a long history in the production of electric vehicles, having sold more ‘zero emission’ vehicles than any other manufacturer in the world.
