At an event held at its steel plant in Ghent, Belgium, ArcelorMittal inaugurated its flagship carbon capture and utilization (CCU) project. It will reduce annual carbon emissions from the Ghent plant by 125,000 tonnes. This project will reduce annual carbon emissions in Ghent by 112,500 tonnes. Earlier post.)

Following this journey, 13 race trucks which spent the summer shutdown in Belgium and three trucks from the UK, used locally sourced biofuel to travel 300km from Spa to Zandvoort and then 1100km from Zandvoort to Monza, with only the final 20km requiring the use of diesel fuel due to supply challenges.

LanzaTech has been selected by the Department of Energy’s Bioenergy Technologies Office (BETO) to receive a $4-million award to design and plan a demonstration-scale facility using industrial off gases to produce 3 million gallons/year of low-carbon jet and diesel fuels. a joint venture between carbon recycler, LanzaTech, Shougang Group, a leading Chinese iron and steel producer, and its New Zealand partner, TangMing, have successfully produced more than 9 million gallons of ethanol from recycled steel mill emissions in their first year of operation. ArcelorMittal Europe owns Europe’s only DRI-EAF facility in Hamburg, where a project is planned to test the ability of hydrogen to reduce iron ore and form DRI on an industrial scale, as well as testing carbon-free DRI in the EAF steelmaking process.

The EU-funded three-year NELLHI project has concluded after successfully developing a new stack design of solid oxide fuel cells, from an all-European supply chain. Stacks were designed and assembled with optimized interconnections and seals. With hydrocarbon fuels, these are hydrogen (H 2 ) and carbon monoxide (CO).
