Recent developments in lithium ion batteries, and the consequential range improvements of EVs has significantly dampened enthusiasm for hydrogen fuel cells. The Honda FCX Clarity FCEV and the Toyota Mirai FCEV, both use an electric drive motor and a battery pack. So why haven’t FCEV becoming as prolific as other electric cars?

Unlike battery-powered electric vehicles, FCEVs can go over 500 kilometers on a full tank of hydrogen and can be refueled in 2-3 minutes, exactly like regular petrol/diesel cars. Unlike Lithium, hydrogen is the most plentiful element in the universe ( Lithium is the key component in electric vehicle batteries).

Once electricity is generated and passes into the grid, it is typically used almost immediately.

With global leading car OEMs such as Toyota, Honda, Hyundai all recently announcing their intentions to make their FCEVs available to the consumer, there is no doubt that the OEMs have done their homework.

A Fiat-based battery powered small car is slated for production shortly after the Circuit, according to Chryslers viability plan.

On the other hand, hybrids that don’t plug in draw their battery power from the engine and when the battery is drained, the car simply switches to gas power. If you use solar power to generate electricity for your EV charging station, you can reduce the carbon footprint of running an EV down to virtually zero.
