GM today announced two contracts to "design and test lithium-ion batteries" for use in the Saturn Vue Plug-in Hybrid announced last month at the LA Auto Show. Johnson Controls/SAFT, the huge battery company at which President Bush first publicly announced his support for plug-in hybrids, received one contract.

1 auto maker is accelerating its efforts to meet the challenge by being the first to offer a plug-in hybrid and by expanding its production of biofuel vehicles. He didn't give a time frame for the plug-in, but said it will take "several years" to bring one to market. Tags: GM plug-in hybrid Saturn.

A new model provides a fresh start but as an unknown quantity needs heavy promotion to get traction in the crowded auto market. The car has been rolling along ever since, including a plug-in hybrid Prime model today and variants that were discarded along the way. This carries risks, but separates the EVs from the standard offerings.

AMP, which currently up fits Saturn Sky and Pontiac Solstice vehicles, is targeting the Nissan Leaf, with its 100 mile range, as its closest rival. The Saturn version of the two-mode plug-in hybrid at the Milford Proving Grounds. On 11 August, GM invited approximately 75 journalists and auto analysts to spend a day learning about the new GM. I was able to spend 10 minutes driving a Saturn Aura sedan with an (HCCI) engine system. This is controlled auto ignition.
