The vision document describes a self-sustaining market in 2030 for fuel cell electric vehicles and renewably hydrogen, and the strategic priorities necessary for realizing it. The CaFCP document envisions 1,000 hydrogen stations enabling upwards of 1,000,000 fuel electric vehicles on California roads in 2030.

For the purposes of the executive order and action plan, ZEVs include hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), battery electric vehicles (BEVs), and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). Navigant suggests that, since the automakers have already designed the vehicles that they will be selling in 2018, they will become more vocal in 2014 to push for changes; the firm expects the dispute to escalate, perhaps resulting in legal action. In October, California passed legislation committing to build 100 hydrogen stations by 2024.

Under a venture with the motto “From Road to Grid”, Audi is therefore currently working on a concept to convert old batteries into stationary energy stores. A first test setup located near Ingolstadt recently started supplying the grid. With AWC, the energy is transferred via a floor charging plate connected to the electric grid.

Heres our roundup of auto-maker comments in the media recently. A January 2007 Pacific National Laboratory study shows that if we woke up tomorrow and all our vehicles could plug in, todays grid could support more than three-quarters of them charging at night without building a single power plant. We see evidence of evolving views.
