The Polk County, Oregon, Sheriff’s Office is running 10 patrol cars converted to propane autogas, including seven Ford Crown Vics, two Chevy Tahoes and one Ford F-350 pickup truck; the office expects to save more than $20,000 every year by using the alternative fuel. —Sergeant Mark Garton, Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Although fuel costs are the most ‘present’ cost on peoples’ minds, insurance and tax and also see running costs creep up. Without taking into account incentives and subsidies, taxes on electric vehicles are typically more expensive than gas cars—an average of $183 more per year.

Hyundai unveiled the redesigned 2018 Sonata Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid models at the Chicago Auto Show. Sonata Plug-in Hybrid buyers are currently eligible for a $4,919 federal tax credit. No longer reserved for luxury cars, advanced safety technologies, such as Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross Traffic Alert is standard.

According to Japan’s Nikkei , the Japanese automaker is looking at several sites in Canada, including one near its auto factory in Alliston, Ontario. Of course, batteries coming from Canada with materials found in Canada will also help vehicles qualify for the US’s federal EV tax incentives.

In only a few short years we have gone from virtually zero to a quarter-million zero-emission cars, and every day moves us closer to our combined goal of 3.3 million by 2025.

The MY14 B-Class Electric Vehicle will be available beginning in mid-July to dealers in California; Connecticut; Maine; Maryland; Massachusetts; New Jersey; New York; Oregon; Rhode Island; and Vermont.

For whatever reason, all EVs get the full $7500 applied to leases, however.
