Audi Brussels to produce exclusively e-tron quattro SUV, battery packs; A1 production moving to Spain

As of 2018, Audi Brussels will produce exclusively the commercial version of Audi’s e-tron quattro battery-electric SUV ( earlier post ). Audi will transfer production of the Audi A1 from Brussels to Martorell in Spain; in 2014, Audi Brussels produced 115,378 Audi A1 models.

Audi begins construction of first North American plant

Audi has begun construction on a more than €900-million plant, comprising a press shop, body shop and assembly line in San José Chiapa, Mexico—the company’s first plant in North America. Starting in mid-2016, the plant will produce the successor generation of the successful Audi Q5 SUV.

Audi sales in China rose 10.3% year-on-year in August; global sales up 5.0%

Following growth in June and July, Audi AG increased its global sales year-on-year in August as well. Last month, Audi sales increased in all three of its top markets: the US (+2.8%), Germany (+6.7%), and, most notably, in China (+10.3%) with 54,205 Chinese customers. Audi has handed over 360,225 automobiles in China since January.

JATO Dynamics: 17% of new passenger car registrations in Europe in April were electrified

Registrations of SUV in April totalled 109,500 units, 78% less than April 2019. In contrast, the bigger and more expensive SUVs posted more moderate declines. EVs: the new safe haven.

The Tesla Model 3 also achieved another record in February, as it became the top-selling premium midsize sedan in Europe—outperforming the popular Mercedes C-Class, Audi A4 and BMW 3-Series. Other notable results included Volkswagen, where volume was up by 64%, Hyundai, where volume was up by 334%, and Audi, which sold 1,735 units of the e-Tron. Consumers bought 505,900 SUVs in July, as demand increased by 8.7%. Volkswagen Group led the SUV segment, as the German maker recorded 25.7%
