Following growth in June and July, Audi AG increased its global sales year-on-year in August as well. Last month, Audi sales increased in all three of its top markets: the US (+2.8%), Germany (+6.7%), and, most notably, in China (+10.3%) with 54,205 Chinese customers. Spain saw sales increase 8.8% more than a year ago.

Chinese-made cars drive growth In Europe, sale of cars made in China saw the highest levels of year-on-year growth in February 2024 (+45%) and in January-February 2024 (+43%). By comparison, the registrations of cars made in Germany and Spain – the second and third most popular origins – saw increases of 6% each during February.

Following the acquisition of Plastal activities in Germany and Spain in 2010, this international expansion will be the first joint-venture for the automotive exteriors activity of Faurecia in China. The joint-venture has recently been awarded additional automotive exteriors business from FAW-VW for the new Audi A6.

Markets were significantly hit in Italy, France, Spain, Austria, Ireland, Slovenia, Greece and Portugal, where the combined volume fell from 634,600 units in March 2019 to 161,800 units last month. MG (owned by the Chinese SAIC) was the only group to post an increase in registrations, with its volume jumping from 1,327 to 2,592 units.

While deliveries in Germany were slightly down (-3.3%), the overall trend in Western Europe remained stable (-0.5%) on the back of increases in Spain and Italy. In total, 406,500 vehicles (+6.3%) were handed over to Chinese customers in September. The Group handed over 85,900 vehicles to customers in North America, a rise of 13.5%

The single-motor, rear-wheel-drive version was quick enough for any urban or highway situation we encountered during test drives of pre-production versions that spanned seven hours over two October days in and around Barcelona, Spain. Audi, BMW, Genesis, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz only offer electric SUVs in larger and much pricier segments.
