Mazda has been repositioning itself into the premium category, and the CX-90 will give it a larger SUV to compete with the Acura MDX , Buick Enclave , Kia Telluride , Hyundai Palisade , Subaru Ascent and Toyota Highlande r. The engine works in conjunction with an electric motor and a rechargeable 17.8 liter inline 6-cylinder engine.

Both hybrid systems have front and rear electric motors with the Max having more power and torque; both run on 87 octane. Toyota’s hybrid system automatically switches between the electric drive mode, combined electric motor and gasoline engine and gasoline-only engine power. It features a 6-speed automatic.

Fuel economy is EPA rated at 24 mpg city, 28 highway, 25 combined. The mild hybrid system consists of a 48-volt electrical system that allows the engine to shut off when not needed, increasing fuel economy. This is the most powerful mass production gasoline engine offered by Mazda, putting out 340 hp and 369 lb.-ft.
