Yet another reason to think again about the ethanol craze in an article in today's LA Times. Of our "alternative fuel" options, only electricity can truly be made renewably (wind, solar, geothermal, small hydro), with no carbon or other noxious emissions. I blogged about this previously here.

Primary energy sources in model include fossil fuels (crude oil, natural gas, and coal); non-renewable non-fossil sources (nuclear); and renewable sources (hydroelectric, wind, solar, and biomass). These energy sources can be converted to transportation fuels or used for generation of heat, electricity, or both (cogeneration).

The ride was supple, but not soft or floaty, and felt great on winding roads. Volvo positions the XC60 as a luxury SUV, and it does quite well against tough competitors from Audi, Porsche, Lexus, Genesis, Cadillac and Mercedes-Benz (our tests of those competitors is at the end of this article).

The alternative-fuel car evolved to reduce exhaust emissions and other problems derived from burning fossil fuels. The PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), a subset of the electric car, combines a primary electric motor with a much smaller back-up engine fueled with a hydrocarbon/biofuel mix. Perhaps you should have checked that before posting. as stated. I suspect that the correct plug will be of a twist-lock design as is typical of many higher voltage and amperage plugs used in commercial service and for industrial equipment. 5 Clayton B.
