Honda last week announced key targets for sales of electrified vehicles in North America, with a plan to make battery-electric and fuel cell electric vehicles (BEVs and FCEVs) to represent 100% of its vehicle sales by 2040, progressing from sales of 40% by 2030 and 80% by 2035. Honda has plans for a mid- to large-size electric vehicle to debut for sale in North America in 2025, based on a dedicated platform. An EV based on the N-ONE will go on sale in Japan in 2025, with two small EVs following in 2026. One will be an SUV.

Tesla helped former shareholder Toyota to bring back the Toyota RAV4 EV , an electric SUV and also aided its other OEM shareholder, Daimler (which also has since divested its Tesla shares), with the Smart ED and B-Class Electric. Mitsubishi finally brought the a plug-in hybrid version of its Outlander SUV to the U.S.
