Industry survey finds aluminum use in autos at all-time high; average per vehicle use expected to more than double from 2012 by 2025

Body, bumper and closure content grew by 58% from 2009 to 2012, with 30% of all hoods on 2012 vehicles being aluminum, saving a total of 100 million pounds (45,359 tonnes) of vehicle weight across the entire fleet. For example, the trend line for aluminum hood penetration predicts a minimum share for aluminum of 41% by 2017 and 53% by 2025.
