FCA US LLC announced an agreement to supply “thousands” of Chrysler Pacifica plug-in Hybrid minivans ( earlier post ) to Waymo to support the launch of its driverless ride-hailing service. FCA previously delivered 100 Pacifica Hybrid minivans, adapted for self-driving, to Waymo during the second half of 2016 and an additional 500 in 2017.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling the 2017-2020 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid—a plug-in hybrid minivan—over concerns of a fire risk relating to the 12-volt accessory battery connection. The recall affects 27,634 vehicles—every Pacifica Hybrid produced for all model years combined.

The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid has a somewhat deceptive—or perhaps incomplete—name. It is in fact a plug-in hybrid, making it the first minivan equipped with that type of powertrain to go into production. It is also the first mass-market plug-in vehicle sold by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) in all 50 states of the U.S.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ (FCA) Chrysler Brand will launch two plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) over the next several years, said Al Gardner, President and CEO of the Chrysler Brand, during the FCA Investor Day presentations at Auburn Hills, Mi. FCA will launch a PHEV minivan in 2016 to comply with ZEV requirements. —Bob Lee.

They say you never really forget how to ride a bike, but if you're Chrysler, you may temporarily forget how to build a minivan. Its last generation of Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans were, frankly, subpar.

This week Google and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles announced that the Silicon Valley giant would use the Detroit automaker's 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans for its self-driving car research. It's the season of autonomous-car announcements, apparently.
