The US Department of Agriculture has awarded Bridgestone and several partners a $35-million grant to continue its investment in desert shrub guayule ( earlier post ) to advance a climate-smart domestic rubber industry and offer a solution for growers amid the ongoing water crisis in the Southwestern US.

The new study used tree-ring data and other climate records to identify a drought period unmatched in severity by the current drought or other ancient droughts. The new knowledge for how much worse droughts can be, even without anthropogenic climate forcing, points to a potentially grim outlook for water in the West.

While the number of scrap tires generated each year grew by almost 7%, the total number of scrap tires recycled or reclaimed has not significantly changed since 2017. USTMA is the national trade association for tire manufacturers that produce tires in the US.

Climate & Renewables North America, LLC (E.ON) signed an agreement with Tucson Electric Power (TEP) to provide frequency response and voltage control from a grid-scale, 10 megawatt (MW) battery energy storage facility with a 2 MW solar array. The project is expected to be completed in the first half of 2017.

GM also announced it will produce the next generation of its autonomous test vehicles at its Orion Township assembly plant beginning in early 2017. Within the next few months, testing will expand to metro Detroit, which will become GM’s main location for development of autonomous technology in winter climates.
