Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ (FCA) Chrysler Brand will launch two plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) over the next several years, said Al Gardner, President and CEO of the Chrysler Brand, during the FCA Investor Day presentations at Auburn Hills, Mi. FCA will launch a PHEV minivan in 2016 to comply with ZEV requirements.

Li-ion battery maker LG Chem will supply the 16-kWh Li-ion battery pack system and controls for the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivan. Chrysler unveiled the all-new 2017 Pacifica minivan in both conventional and plug-in hybrid versions at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The PHEV is the minivan segment’s first. The Pacifica Hybrid will deliver an estimated all-electric range of 30 miles from a 16-kWh lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery.

As of the end of April 2016, Toyota is selling 33 hybrid electric passenger car models (HEVs) and one plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model in more than 90 countries and regions. In 2015, Toyota added a hybrid model of the popular minivan, the Sienta and began selling the latest hybrid icon: the fourth-generation Prius. Data: Toyota.

After two years of testing, the US DOE demonstration projects for Ram Truck and Chrysler Minivan PHEVs are undergoing upgrades to leverage advancements in lithium-ion battery technology. Chrysler is also seeking to reduce electrical loads through application of higher efficiency fans and fuel pumps.
