Japan’s Asahi Shimbun reports that Toyota will begin mass production of EVs in China in 2019, using the C-HR crossover ( earlier post ) as the base. The report says that the C-HR-based EV will be limited to the Chinese market, and that Toyota aims to introduce another mass-produced EV in 2020.

Diesel engines may still have a future at Toyota, in some markets at least. In a recent interview with Australian publication Drive , Toyota Australia sales and marketing boss said diesel is “not going to die off anytime soon,” adding that it remains viable as part of hybrid powertrains, “particularly for heavy vehicles.”

Australian manufacturer Roev plans to do just that from 2023 by converting Toyota Hiluxes and Ford Rangers to electric, with conversions priced from $47,990.
