UB study finds link between ambient ozone exposure, artery wall thickness

Long-term exposure to ambient ozone appears to accelerate arterial conditions that progress into cardiovascular disease and stroke, according to a new University at Buffalo study. The study found that chronic exposure to ozone was associated with a progression of thickening of the main artery that supplies blood to the head and neck.

China study connects ozone pollution to cardiovascular health

Exposure to ozone, long associated with impaired lung function, is also connected to health changes that can cause cardiovascular disease such as heart attack, high blood pressure and stroke, according to a new study of Chinese adults. EPA is proposing , at the request of the State of Maine, to require the sale of reformulated gasoline ( RFG ) in York, Cumberland, Sagadahoc, Androscoggin, Kennebec, Knox and Lincoln counties in southern Maine starting in June 2015. The Maine legislature subsequently postponed the requirement for sale of RFG until 1 June 2015.

EPA updates VOCs standards for oil and gas storage tanks

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued final updates to its 2012 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) performance standards for storage tanks used in crude oil and natural gas production and transmission. Storage tanks that emit 6 or more tons of VOCs a year must reduce emissions by 95%.

A key part of ARB’s AB 32 Scoping Plan ( earlier post ), the cap-and-trade program provides an overall limit on the emissions from sources responsible for 85% of California’s greenhouse gas emissions. The program is expected to reduce GHG emissions between 18 and 27 MMTCO 2 e in 2020. Over time, the cap will steadily decline.
