Road testing by Consumer Reports has found the fuel economy on the 2013 Fusion Hybrid sedan and new C-Max Hybrid falling far short below Ford (and EPA) triple 47 mpg (5.0 Consumer Reports found the Fusion Hybrid delivered 39 mpg (6.0 Make no mistake; both the Fusion Hybrid and C-Max Hybrid still deliver excellent fuel economy.

The C-MAX Energi’s 100 MPGe combined rating beats the Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid’s combined EPA rating by 5 MPGe and the Chevrolet Volt’s by 2 MPGe. Ford projects that its Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid, due out in early 2013, will deliver 100+ MPGe combined.

The 2013 Ford Fusion and 2013 Nissan Altima have earned a Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS, a new level above the previous Top Safety Pick standard. Ford and Nissan are celebrating the results of the latest round of Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash testing--but rival Toyota won't be quite so joyful.

With the US sales numbers for the first quarter of 2013 in, Tesla appears to be the leading seller of plug-in vehicles for that period, with more than 4,750 units of the model S sold in North America. Jan-August 2013 sales for the Volt were 14,994 units, up 11.1% The Prius PHV put in a very strong second-place showing of 1,791 units in August 2013, up 65% from 1,047 units in August 2012. Its sales for the first 8 months of 2013 were 6,822 units, up 11.6% Sales were led by the Chevy Volt, with 3,351 units, up 18.4%
