Azure Dynamics Corporation announced that AM General LLC will collaborate in producing the Transit Connect Electric. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) provided Azure Dynamics with incentive funding to encourage the selection of a Michigan-based partner.

Ford Motor Company and Azure Dynamics Corporation have signed a collaborative agreement to begin delivering a pure battery electric version of the Ford Transit Connect van to customers in Europe beginning in late summer 2011. Repair works under the Ford warranty will be provided by Ford dealers.

Azure Dynamics Corporation has selected Johnson Controls-Saft (JCS) as the battery supplier for Azure’s Force Drive integration on the Ford Transit Connect Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV). Ford Motor Company and Smith Electric Vehicles US (SEV US) have mutually agreed to terminate the development project of an electric car-derived van based on Transit Connect. Azure Dynamics has selected Johnson Controls-Saft as the supplier for lithium-ion battery cells and battery packs for the Transit Connect BEV.

Smith Electric Vehicles US Corporation (SEV US Corp) ( earlier post ), a Delaware corporation temporarily headquartered in Overland Park, Kan., In addition to its partnership agreement with Ford on the Transit Connect, SEV US Corp will expand its zero-emission product line to include other van and light truck models based on demand.

Both are currently involved in the production of the Ford electric Transit Connect. Closing of the investment is expected to occur on or about 15 June 2010. Azure plans to use the net proceeds to fund its ongoing product development and commercialization efforts as well as for general corporate purposes.

The Dutch energy company Eneco has signed contracts for the purchase of 50 Smith Ampere electric commercial vans, the electric version of the Ford Transit Connect, to be delivered in 2009 and 2010. The agreement is worth €2.3 million (US$3.4 The contract for the 50 Smith Amperes comes on top of this.
