Chevrolet Volt owners surpass half a billion electric miles; 63% of overall driving in EV mode

Chevrolet Volt owners have accumulated more than half a billion all-electric miles since the vehicle’s launch in 2010. The 2014 Volt provides owners with fuel economy of EPA-estimated 98 MPGe (electric) and 35 city/40 highway on gasoline power. The Toyota Prius is the most frequently traded-in vehicle for a Volt.

GM CEO outlines highlights of fuel economy plan through MY2016: lightweighting; more efficient gasoline and clean diesel engines, electrification

Within his talk about the need for a US energy policy at the IHS CERAWeek 2013 energy conference in Houston, GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson outlined some highlights of the company’s fuel economy plan through the 2016 model year. A good rule of thumb is that a 10% reduction in curb weight will reduce fuel consumption by about 6.5%.

UMTRI study finds total cost of ownership of diesels in US often much less than gasoline counterparts

While alternative powertrains still represent a small percentage of market share compared to gasoline engines, the report noted, clean diesels saw a 10% increase in 2014 sales over 2013 sales, while hybrids saw a 10% decrease, pure electrics saw a 20% increase and compressed natural gas saw a 33% decrease.
