Neste Oil’s NExBTL renewable diesel is to be trialed in day-to-day use in Finland by a fleet of road tanker trucks from the beginning of June onwards. The vehicles will fill up with 100% NExBTL renewable diesel at the Neste Oil Truck station at the distribution terminal adjacent to the company’s Porvoo refinery.

A three-year biofuel trial organized by Neste Oil, Helsinki Region Transport (HSL), and Proventia has recently been completed, and the results have shown that Neste Oil’s NExBTL renewable diesel can significantly reduce local emissions that have a direct impact on urban air quality. From 2008 onwards, some ran on 100% NExBTL.

Neste Oil has increased its capacity to produce NExBTL renewable diesel following the start-up of a second dedicated NExBTL plant at the company’s main refinery at Porvoo, Finland. The new plant will be capable of producing 170,000 t/a of NExBTL renewable diesel. Earlier post.).

With its second NExBTL renewable diesel plant coming online in Finland in about six months, Neste Oil plans to increase it purchase of palm oil from Malaysian from about 160,000 tonnes in 2008 to around 250,000 tonnes this year, according to Neste vice-president of business operations of renewable fuels Risto Karppinen.
