The fuel engine on the Volt is used to run the generator to recharge the battery when a trip exceeds 40 miles, and it’s rage on a full tank is around 400 miles. At least GM sent this nifty printed banner explaining all about the new J1772 industry standard recharging plug. At the 2008 Plug-In Conference in San Jose, Coulomb had the charging game all to themselves, but they were one of half a dozen charging players at this year’s show.

Alfa Romeo Tonale – the Italian brand finally has a rechargeable car in its ranks in the form of the Tonale PHEV compact SUV. Peugeot e-208, e-2008 – at least one of Peugeot’s compact BEVs will arrive Down Under by 2022. Expect to see it Down Under in 2023. More affordable EV6s will follow, but not until 2023.

The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles.
