Four next-generation fuel cell-powered hybrid-electric transit buses were introduced in Hartford, Connecticut, joining an earlier generation bus that began service in 2007. The new buses will be operated by Connecticut Transit (CTTransit) and are equipped with UTC Power fuel cell systems.

Connecticut-based Yardney Technical Products, Inc. We have been working on battery technology research specifically for hybrid and electric vehicle applications for years. In 2007, Yardney received two federal awards totaling $200,000 for developing lithium-ion batteries for use in hybrid electric vehicles.

The US Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has published a report summarizing interviews with participants in the hydrogen-powered buses trials underway in more than 20 cities around the world from 2002 to 2007. Fuel cell hybrid buses are deployed in North America, at AC Transit and SunLine in California, and CTTRANSIT in Connecticut.
