ARPA-E acknowledges the complex, controversial history of LENR beginning with the announcement by Martin Fleischmann and Stanley Pons (FP) in 1989 that they had achieved deuterium-deuterium (D-D) “cold fusion” in an electrochemical cell. Multiple books recount the history of “cold fusion” (now known as LENR).

Ford began selling hybrid vehicles in the US in the fourth quarter of 2004 with the introduction of the Escape Hybrid. Other current hybrids in the Ford US line-up are the Fusion Hybrid, the C-MAX Hybrid, and Lincoln MKZ. Ford Motor Company has produced its 100,000th hybrid SUV and used the milestone to restate its commitment to ramping up production of hybrid vehicles this year. Ford began sales the Ford Escape hybrid in 2004, followed by the Mariner Hybrid in 2005.

The first design win for EyeQ4 in series production has been secured for a global premium European car manufacturer for production to start in early 2018. The EyeQ4 would support fusion with radars and scanning-beam lasers in the high-end customer functions. Series production is supported for early 2018 start of production.
