The vehicle scooped the Car of the Year award in Japan in its debut year, and the third generation of the model took the prize again in 2009. When sales of the Civic Hybrid started to flag, Honda introduced the Insight Hybrid earlier this year. In 2005, it launched the Ford Escape Hybrid – the first hybrid electric SUV.
