And the auto industry had just canceled the battery EV. At the moment, the auto industry does not have a clear interest in V2G. Some automakers, notably Nissan and now Ford , already sell bidirectional EVs, and others are experimenting with the technology.

The way cars are used here, the ways in which cars interact with the environment, the way in which human beings reside in urban centers in China are profoundly going to seed the development of the auto industry in every other part of the world. Private sector. Pure electric passenger car. That invention was for a different time.

Nickel-metal hydride batteries, proven for many years in hybrids to be safe, could go into PHEVs today -- they would be designed more like the ones Toyota put in its 2002 RAV4 EV compact all-electric SUV than like current hybrid batteries. Think Global was formerly known as Think City, a prior Ford Motor Company ( F ) acquisition and part of a now-defunct Think division at Ford. The Think City was short-lived in the States with production halting in 2002 after just 1005 cars had been assembled. (a subsidiary of Ener1 Inc. ENON.OB ) ). aren’t there yet.

If the EV1 was viable (or even close) we would see Ford, Toyota, Honda, etc all with 80 mile cars right now.do I had surmised this in my 2002 car design thesis [link] even before anyone was talking about plug in series hybrids.
