A plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) contains both an electric powertrain and an internal combustion engine. The nickel-metal hydride used in EV batteries is in maintenance-free sealed cells, so nothing gets in or out. EV MYTH ONE: EVs catch fire more than petrol cars.
