GM has simplified the two-mode hybrid system for application in front-wheel drive vehicles—the Saturn VUE being the first instance ( earlier post )—while retaining its functionality and capability, according to Mark Selogie, Senior Manager Power Electronics, GM Powertrain, speaking at the SAE Hybrid Symposium in San Diego (11-12 Feb).

Many US drivers now have a vague idea that General Motors is doing something with electric vehicles. Thus, the restructured GM was composed of Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac, while the Hummer, Pontiac, Saab and Saturn brands died. The Trace will have a built-in electric hub motor to help reduce the physical strain on workers.

The news that General Motors would relaunch the infamous Hummer name—as an all-electric truck no less—broke a few days before the high-dollar, high-visibility 2020 Super Bowl ad that introduced that vehicle to the world. That will allow it to deliver a total of 750 kW (1,000 hp) to the three motors powering the wheels.

General Motors 2MT70 FWD two-mode hybrid transaxle, as seen from. Design parameters of the current design include a 50% improvement in EPA composite fuel economy as compared to a conventional Saturn VUE, as well as a 7.5 second 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) acceleration performance, as compared to a 6.9 Motor-Generators.

The Saturn version of the two-mode plug-in hybrid at the Milford Proving Grounds. As part of the culling, GM has the option to re-badge vehicles from the non-core brands, such as the Pontiac G8, Opel Insignia and Saturn Vue. I was able to spend 10 minutes driving a Saturn Aura sedan with an (HCCI) engine system. by Bill Cooke.
