Three Northeastern states had the highest percentage of new diesel car and SUV registrations in 2016: Vermont (+35%), Maine (+29%) and New Hampshire (+12%). The 2016 increase in diesel sales was about 6.7%

When looking only at cars and SUVs over that period, diesel registrations in the US increased 30% from 640,779 units to 833,324 units; registrations of hybrid cars and SUVs climbed 65% from 1,714,966 units to 2,821,599. Hybrid car and SUV registrations were 3.4 times those of diesel cars and SUVs.

The state of Montana has the oldest average age with light vehicles averaging 16.6 Because of the growth in popularity of light trucks—including CUVs/SUVs—vehicle age in the US. In the West, light vehicles increased 1.5% from 2018-2019 while in the Midwest they aged by just 0.4%.

Yes, the body is new, but Subaru has honed the Forester edge rather than totally re-forging the SUV. Those numbers are enough – at least until it’s time to overtake a semi on a two-lane Montana highway with a 75-mph speed limit. But the majority of changes aren’t the type you’d see with a totally new, ground-up model.
