Gasoline may be averaging around $2.50 a gallon right now, but gas mileage remains an important factor in choosing a new car. Now the EPA has released 2010 fuel efficiency figures for all new cars and trucks sold in the U.S.

Total Ford, Lincoln and Mercury sales were down 0.2% The Camry Hybrid sold 1,465 units, down 33% from the year before, and representing 5.3% of all Camry models sold. The Highlander hybrid posted 722 units, down 20%, representing 11.6% of all High;landers sold. of all GS sales.

Toyota remained the hybrid sales leader, with 24,191 units sold, including 543 units of the new Lexus HS250. Mercury Mariner sales were 3,921 (also a record for August), up 50%. Mercury Milan sales were 3,844, up 112%. Honda picked up less than a percentage point (12.8% in August 2009, compared to 11.9% in August 2008 to 4.4%

On the Lexus side, the RX hybrid posted 527 units, down 60.4% Overall, Ford, Lincoln and Mercury sales for the month totaled 148,153, down 11% versus a year ago—the best performance of any of the major automakers. Highlander Hybrid posted 1,098 sales, down 27.3%; sales of the conventional Highlander models were up 8%.

In March 2009 however, its efforts really picked up pace as Ford launched to the US market the Ford Fusion Hybrid and the Milan Mercury Hybrid, both as 2010 models.
