Panasonic 12V Ni-MH Energy Recovery Systems used in new idle-stop minicars from Nissan and Mitsubishi

Panasonic Corporation’s NiMH 12V Energy Recovery Systems ( earlier post ) is being applied in the new idle-stop (stop-start) minicars just introduced by Nissan Motor and Mitsubishi Motors in Japan: the Nissan DAYZ ROOX and Mitsubishi eK Space. The main lead-acid battery is often placed in the engine compartment.

A NiMH RangerEV could travel nearly 100 miles in favorable conditions.

US Naval Research Lab scientists developing ionic liquid batteries

Rather than depend on acidic electrolytes, ionic liquids are used to create a solid polymer electrolyte composed of an ionic liquid and polyvinyl alcohol, developing novel types of solid state batteries with discharge voltages ranging up to 1.8 Experimental work is currently underway to develop such a rechargeable ionic liquid power source.
