Open Source Civic EV Kit

After spending the past year and a half converting a Porsche 914 to an electric vehicle, I decided to expand my horizons by designing an open-source electric vehicle (EV) conversion kit for a commonly used car. The Saturn came up a distant second, but everyone agreed that the Civic was the best.

The turning point came when tiny Tesla Motors, a Silicon Valley start-up, announced in 2006 that it would produce a speedy electric sports car powered by those same laptop batteries. Plans Cadillac Converj, Opel Ampera, other versions.

They only have that many models because they use the same chassis and drivetrain to build 3 different cars, one branded as a Chevy, the next a Pontiac, then a Saturn, etc. If you build a car as a "kit car" with no real factory, then yes, it will never be an economic success. The EV1s failure was a failure of Management.
