The Genesis GV60 Performance AWD marries high tech and luxury in its cabin. Plug into 230V AC at home and the GV60 will take about 35 hours to recharge from 10 to 100 percent.

There are companies that are reinventing the lead-acid battery to make it more competitive with lithium-ion and nickel metal hydride in terms of storage capacity versus weight, durability, and cold weather performance. Standard kit is generous. For the same money the wagon with Launch Edition kit looks the pick. Audi quotes the 10 percent to 80 percent battery recharge time at approximately 31 minutes. A sweetener from the get-go are six years of free public charging (Chargefox), six years scheduled servicing and six years roadside assist.

The four-door sedan will deliver 40 miles on a charge; a small gasoline engine will recharge the battery as it approaches depletion, extending its range by as much as 200 miles.
