GM has been saying for a while now that they had picked their supplier for the LiIon battery in the Volt, but they weren’t prepared to announce who it was. German energy firm RWE has stated that a cadre of respected automakers and energy firms have all come together in agreement on a three-point, 400-volt plug that will enable electric cars the world over to be recharged anywhere, regardless of which recharging station they stop at. And personally I like better simple solutions.

You will be able to charge your car at home at night in three to eight hours, but never be in fear of “running out of juice” because a fast-charge opportunity will be available right around the corner at Starbucks, Safeway, Wal-Mart or your local shopping mall.

And since even the speediest DC chargers take roughly 30 minutes to juice up an EV, drivers and passengers have time to kill, including enough time for a bite. Aside from balky chargers, or stations that dispense juice at lower-than-expected rates, other notorious issues include cords that are too short to easily reach EV charging ports.

The basic equation governing the charging of batteries is W = V * A, or to put it into words, Watts equals Volts times Amps. Personally I think that we don’t need to charge the car even in 10 minutes. A vehicle with a 200 mile range like the Tesla Roadster would easily be able to do the trip with one recharge.
